LM wins a Brit Award
YES! For British Female Solo Artist. On being presented with the award by Boy George at last night’s ceremony, an extremely overwhelmed LM said, ahem:
“Hello, I’m Laura. There you go mum, this one’s for you. Um, this is really weird!”
She also thanked her management and all at her label, Virgin. Watch the footage here.
As you can probably tell by now, she’s a lady of few words (when not in song) but your constant backing and kind comments about both ‘Alas I Cannot Swim‘ and ‘I Speak Because I Can‘ really mean do so much to her. This morning, a still pretty dazed LM had this message for all of you visitors to this humble website…
“Thank you – and don’t go changin’ “
Simple, the way we like it and the way it will stay.
Stay well,
LM HQ x

deserved winner by far, Laura’s music moves me more than any other. Thought provoking & treasured. Not to be ruined by ‘wannabe’ fans who will half-heartedly like to music just to seem cool. It’s not what it’s about!
Glad to see Mumford dominate as well last night.
A happy evening for a 16 year old folk fan like myself.
God speed.
Rachel
*the
way to ruin a valid point there, haha. You should be able to edit comments for fools like me

Real music actually winning! I’m not surprised Laura was a little lost for words. Perhaps these awards have some value after all.

At the time I used the word ‘inimitable’ to introduce you at an LP hmc or similar, I was proud of myself for pronouncing the word. Now I am proud of myself for being prophetic! Fantastic news, Laura.
Olivia

How brilliant, I know and love Munford and Sons, saw you win the Brit award, heard about the connection, so bought your album ‘I speak because I can’ yesterday. First time played your music, listened and read (loved) words to songs carefully in the office, played 2nd time loud in car down the moterway driven by the music, took slow drive around country lanes and sea roads listening for 3rd time with single phrases jumping out at me. Totally love and fully understand why you have won the award. I’m so pleased now to know your music. Big congratulations from an Irish man in Kent.
James
Grats, your last album is still on repeat on my ipod and I brought it on release day! So good to see it got an award, you deserved it.
.
When Boy George announced the winner the other night, it was by far the happiest moment of my life so far! I honestly never thought I’d see the day that Laura and Mumford & Sons both won a brit, hopefully there’ll be room for Johnny Flynn next year! Laura’s music changed my life for ever a couple of years back and its good to see the mainstream recognising REAL music and REAL artists that have the ability to do that. I wish they had of shown us Cheryl Cole’s shocked face..

HOORAAAAAAAAAAAY! Congratulations Laura:) Chuffed to bits for you! Thankyou for your wonderful, wonderful music. No matter how bad I’m feeling, I just listen to ‘Rambling Man’ and the world seems like a better place.
Best wishes x
Lydia
Laura,
Couldn’t be happier for you! So thrilled to know that true musicall talent is appreciated by a music industry that is usually led my commercial rubbish. Both albums are amazing as are you! Congrats.

Congratulations Laura, wonderful to see your true talent and sparkle beat the big “celebs”. Your gig in Southsea and Mumford’s in Brighton were my two highlights of 2010. Makes me proud to live in Hampshire and to say I play folk music!
Stephanie
Hooray! Was rooting for you all the way from Canada and I’m so happy that you won. Definitely a well-deserved award!
Elliott
Nice to see the album jump from number 80 to 21 in the charts!
Although now when I’m driving around listening to it in my car I’m paranoid that people think I’ve just jumped on the bandwagon!
It’s your fault, Laura.
Rachel
Congratulations Laura! You are a wonderful artist , glad you were recognized for you talent! Good thoughts from Rachel in the United States!!
